Book Concept

Hard Travel is a proposed anthology of ten compelling adventure journeys undertaken over the past fifty years. Spanning polar regions, high mountains, deserts, and oceans, the book will focus on modern expeditions that have largely escaped mainstream attention - remarkable journeys that pushed the limits of human endurance, innovation, and resilience in the world’s most demanding environments.

While many expedition anthologies revisit historic or widely publicised feats, Hard Travel aims to highlight lesser-known yet equally significant adventures. These stories, drawn from a broad range of disciplines, reflect the evolving nature of exploration.

As a journalist with experience reporting across a wide spectrum of expedition environments, I bring a cross-disciplinary perspective to this project. The book will combine thorough desk research with in-depth interviews, aiming to illuminate both the logistical challenges and human dimensions of each journey.

What sets Hard Travel apart:

  • Unheard stories: Focuses on expeditions that are extraordinary but have received limited public attention.

  • Diverse environments: Covers a wide geographical and disciplinary range - polar, mountain, desert, ocean, and more.

  • Contemporary relevance: Highlights recent journeys that reflect modern challenges, such as climate change, technological shifts, and evolving expedition ethics.

  • Insightful access: Draws on original interviews and privileged access to a global network of world-class adventurers.

  • Narrative journalism: Blends storytelling with investigative depth, bringing each expedition to life for both general readers and seasoned adventure enthusiasts.
